MATCHA vs GREEN TEA

Everything You Need To Know – The Good, Great & Even Better Benefits

If you’re anything like me then you love a trend.  Whether it be in fashion, beauty or something else.  I love keeping my eye on whats ‘hot’ and although I admit I don’t always agree with what is meant to be ‘in’ it’s interesting to see what society is telling us.  One trend I personally haven’t ever really got on board with is the need to drink either Green Tea or Matcha at any given opportunity, however I put this down to lack of knowledge on what they actually are.

The strange thing about these 2 is that they are both created from the same plant Camellia Sinensis.  However, as matcha is ground down into a powered and green tea is in the form of leaves you need a lot less matcha in a drink (most brands recommend 1/2-1 teaspoon).  It’s definitely important to not over do as is it contains caffeine, perhaps not as much as a double espresso but always good to be aware that caffeine isn’t only present in coffee.

Both of course have benefits:

GREEN TEA HELPS WITH:

– Fat Burning

– Brain Function

– Reducing the risk of cancer

– Anti Ageing

– Reducing the appearance of scars

– Reducing Inflammation

– dental health

MATCHA HELPS WITH:

– Calming the mind

– Boosting metabolism

– Detoxification

– Concentration

– Fat Burning

– Strengthening the immune system

– Controlling Type 2 Diabetes

– Protects against infection

– Healthy heart function

In short, if you’re having either green tea or matcha, your body is happy (in moderation of course!) but to find a clear winner I need to get a bit more scientific.  The following section is taken from an article linked here:

Matcha has 10 times the nutritional value of regular green tea and up to 137 times the amount antioxidants. How incredible is that! Matcha is full of antioxidants that boost the immune system and fight free radicals. According to the ORAC testing method, matcha has 1300 units per gram. To understand just how substantial this is, pomegranates have 105 units per gram and blueberries have 91.This means that matcha has 130 times more calcium than normal green tea and 172 times the amount of protein!
